The ASMC Buckeye Chapter is once again supporting our local military and their families this holiday season.
We will contribute to the Adopt A Military Family
effort and work with the Regional Inter-Service Family Assistance Committee (RISFAC), who field the requests coming in for help.
We receive each child’s name, age, sizes and 3-4 wish list items ranging from clothing, toys, etc. Our focus is strictly on gifts for the children.
RISFAC fields each family through interviews and forms to understand what has caused the need; the majority of the time it’s tied to a problem with a paycheck, the soldier is deployed and an emergency has come up. For example: On Dec 22nd last year we were made aware of a soldier’s wife who was in a car accident. He had recently deployed and they had not received their first check. The wife was off work due to her injuries and they have 3 teenagers. Volunteers pulled together to get food/grocery vouchers from the local VA services in their county. In addition, one of our ASMC Members had a few items delivered to the family for the 3 children, which allowed the mother to give each child a little something.
We will also collect gift cards for Kroger and Walmart in $10-15 increments. These are used to help those individual soldiers who may need help throughout the season with groceries or gas.
Our goal is to have all items collected and delivered by December 17th
