    Hi,

I'm Kim Dinsmore.  I have been an ASMC member since 2002 or so (don't want to give away my age).   I was born and raised in Pensacola.   We used to have a Blue Angel chapter, but members started dwindling, and unfortunately the chapter was abolished 10 or so years ago.   Have been a Financial Management Analyst focusing on budgets.   Glad to be part of the ASMC community.

Hi Kim.  Thanks for introducing yourself.  Thanks also for all you do for our nation as an analyst focused on budgets and for your loyalty and support as a long-time member of ASMC.

I recall our Blue Angel Chapter.  It became inactive due to the closure (via BRAC) of the DFAS-Pensacola site, which I believe had about 300 employees.  It wasn't actually "abolished," it basically became and was designated as "inactive," since much of the leadership of the chapter consisted of DFAS-Pensacola FMers.  Each year over the past several years, ASMC HQ staff has successfully worked to reactivate some chapters, through communication with certain individuals who were willing to step up and serve in chapter leadership positions and return the chapter to active status.

The three major success factors in being able to reactivate a chapter (or to establish a new chapter) are:

    • Adequate number of FMers in the area to provide potential to reactivate
    • Sufficient number of FMers willing to volunteer to serve in chapter leadership positions
    • Support of senior FMers of key organizations in the area, who appreciate the value that an ASMC chapter provides in contributing to the professional development and effectiveness of the local FM community

Happy to discuss the possibility of reactivation of our Blue Angel Chapter, if you and other FMers there in Pensacola believe there is potential to have an active chapter there.

PS.  Many of our chapters have experienced a period of inactivity due to COVID.  ASMC HQ has also assisted chapters in using our ASMC HQ Zoom Pro account to conduct some virtual professional development sessions.  In some cases, we have also helped in sourcing speakers, so if you are reading this and your chapter has been inactive for several months, don't hesitate to reach out to our Membership Department (membership@asmconline.org) for help.
